A New Mexico Supreme Court ruling struck a blow to some state retirees challenging restrictions to their benefits.
The court ruled that the state does have the right to trim pension benefits for retired government workers.
The move will help improve the long-term finances of public employee retirement programs, but many retirees weren't happy about the ruling.
The case was brought about by retired educators, who sued to prevent reductions in their annual cost of living adjustments.
