Two New Mexico Army National Guard members are accused of fraudulently obtaining recruiting bonuses.

Retired Col. Isaac Alvarado and his son-in-law, Sgt. Travis Nau, are accused of making up fake guard recruits.

New recruits are entitled to sign on bonuses.

With the fake recruits, the pair allegedly funneled the sign on bonuses into their personal bank accounts.

Court documents state that they fraudulently obtained $12,000 in the scheme.
