A semi driver is in critical condition after crashing into another semi on I-40 near Grants early Monday.

According to New Mexico State Police, a semi parked on the side of I-40 westbound was hit by a second semi just before 5 a.m.

The second semi flipped on impact and the driver was ejected from the vehicle. State police said the man was in critical condition at a Grants hospital, waiting to be airlifted to UNM Hospital.

I-40 was shut down in both directions for about 45 minutes during the incident. The interstate is back open at this time.
