PLACITAS, N.M. – A police pursuit Friday night ended with one person dead and two other suspects arrested, according to New Mexico State Police.

The incident started at approximately 10:30 p.m. after Albuquerque police officers chased three suspects that were apparently shoplifting items from the Wal-Mart store on Carlisle Boulevard.

The suspects were heading on I-25 northbound in a stolen vehicle when an NMSP officer joined in the chase. Suspects shot at officers from the moving vehicle, but the agents did not return fire.

After driving erratically for about 45 minutes, the suspects diverted onto State Road 165 and fled on foot near Placitas. Two of the suspects turned themselves in peacefully to authorities.  The third suspect apparently died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head.

The deceased suspect has been identified as 36-year-old Jaycob J. Gabaldon of Albuquerque.

One of the two surviving suspects, Steven Fisher, was arrested on an unrelated warrant.

The other suspect has not been identified.

The case is still under investigation. Stay tuned to KOB.com and KOB4 Eyewitness News for future updates.
