A group of teens say they were almost hit by an SUV that came crashing into a northeast Albuquerque apartment parking lot on Sunday.

The incident happened at the Zia Apartments complex near Monroe Street and Marquette Avenue. One of the teens said they were standing in the parking lot when they saw the vehicle coming toward them.

"The car hit the gas way too hard, it came up, smashed into the pole, shot his front left tire, and just kept going, kept hitting the gas right into that gate," he said. "My brother was the closest to it. He almost got hit. Ridiculous."

Albuquerque police said the driver is currently in the hospital. Investigators are testing a blood sample taken after the crash to see if he will face drunken driving charges.

A teen posted a photo of the SUV crash on Instagram.
