Albuquerque city councilors may approve a plan that would increase the number of police officers in downtown Albuquerque.

City Councilor Isaac Benton’s proposal would add extra patrols 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

Currently, Albuquerque Police only has an increased number of police officers downtown on Friday and Saturday night.

Some downtown businesses say they welcome the idea.

The additional officers will cost the city about $115,000 a year.
