Jefferson Middle School parents used a new loop for the first time Monday morning to drop their kids off at school.
While Albuquerque Public Schools says the loop will help with traffic at the school, people who live in the area say it's not safe.
The design takes parents entering on Girard around the school, toward the fields and out on Lomas. Those who live nearby are worried that the loop will actually cause more traffic and make the area dangerous because anyone can access it.
"As a neighborhood and myself, I'm very concerned about the safety of this road. It needs to be closed after pick up and drop off hours," one neighbor said.
But APS maintains that the loop will help traffic in the area since the school is located in a busy part of town.
The district held meetings with the community before the loop was built to hear their concerns.
