UPS is known for their iconic brown trucks, but in Clovis, UPS drivers traded in their wheels for something they thought would be safer during the holiday rush: Golf carts.

It's not how you would expect to receive a package, but for homeowners who live on the Colonial Park golf course, it's normal.

"I saw them on the golf course a lot, which you know you see a little flatbed golf cart with packages... it was kind of unique," Quentin Collins said.

The Colonial Park clubhouse is also doing more than just selling golf balls—it's doubling as a UPS operation center.

UPS leased space in the clubhouse and then used golf carts to make deliveries.

"The carts were I think white Cushman carts with a platform on the back," Weldon Killough said.

The homeowners KOB spoke with didn't mind the carts at all, but one city commissioner brought it to the attention of police.

City Commissioner Juan Garza said it comes down to safety. The carts had no headlights, tail-lights, horns or turn signals.

Clovis police then shut down the operation.

"There are all kinds of issues that people have and they have their agendas," Killough said. "Me being just a private citizen, I had no problem with our golf course staff making it available."

A spokesperson for UPS tells KOB they ran out of trucks and were just trying to get the packages out for Christmas—something they'd like to do again.

"Our intent is we have to use whatever resources we can, including golf carts, moving forward," Jaime Coffield said.

No one from the golf course wanted to speak with KOB, but they did say UPS approached them with the idea and they just wanted to help the community.
