As new details emerge about what happened inside the gym at Berrendo Middle School, frightened students are still trying to cope with what they saw.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 talked to the family of two young boys who ran with their friends to safety after seeing their classmates get shot.

“Well, there's Keegan, Caden, Travis, Lane, Wesley, David," said Abbey and Lilli Soto.

These girls are naming their brothers and their friends who ran for their life.

The group of boys bolted out the doors of the gymnasium, jumped a fence, and then ran one house down to where they live.

"I had eight boys run from the school to my house," Robert Lucero said.

Lucero is the father of two of the boys. He tells KOB they were terrified.

"Terrified boys, yeah they were terrified, pretty terrified and scared. Because they came in screaming, I didn't know what happened," Lucero said.

He says didn't know how to comfort them.

"I didn't know really what to think or what to do. It was just something you see on TV not here, you know," Lucero said.

Younger sister Abbey said what her brother saw made him sick.

"Well, he kind of felt sick to his stomach because of all the blood that was on the gym floor," she said.

Lucero said the tragedy is giving his sons nightmares.

"They just said they were just kind of thinking about it, seeing images and their faces and what they seen," he said.

Lucero said when the eight boys arrived to his house, he had them call their parents right away. He said the parents were there within minutes.
