A student who knows exactly what the students in Roswell are going through is reaching out to the victims to offer support.

His message on YouTube is hitting the hearts of hundreds—a connection based on tragedy.

A little over a month ago, David Courtney was sitting in class in Arapahoe High School when he heard gun shots.

“As soon as the second shot went off my teacher ran to the door and locked it,” he said, “He shot one of my friends and she didn't make it through it.”

His friend, Claire Davis, died a week after the shooting on Dec. 21.

Investigators say she was a random victim shot in the head by Karl Pierson, another student.

“I went on Facebook and I saw the news about Berrendo Middle School in Roswell New Mexico, I just thought to myself how can this be happening again?” Courtney said. “If would've happened to me in middle school it would of shaken me for a lot longer than it has now. I'm still recovering obviously.”

David says he had to grow up fast, but his advice to victims of all ages is to remember how to be a kid again and live life to the fullest.

“A little further down the road you have to learn how to laugh again, learn to accept the good things in life,” he said, “So if you ever need anything just know that Arapahoe High School, me David Courtney, and my community, want you guys to live Warrior strong because we are here for you.”
