CORRALES, N.M. -- The search for a suspect who fled after crashing a stolen vehicle during a police chase continues in Corrales.
Police Chief Ray Vigil said the chase began when officer Jeremy Romero tried to stop the suspect for a traffic violation. Vigil said the suspect refused to stop and reached speeds of 100 mph in a 30 mph zone.
The suspect crashed into a wall while the officer's car flipped over in the area of Sagebrush near Corrales Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Romero injured in his car and the suspect missing. Bernalillo County K-9 units searched for the suspect in the Bosque, but had to call off the search when the dogs lost the scent trail.
Police don't believe the suspect is still in the Bosque, but warn residents in the area to be cautious.
Romero was taken to UNM Hospital in critical but stable condition. He has been with the Corrales Police Department for a month and a half.
