A Corrales cop is in the hospital Tuesday after a high speed chase ended badly.

Officer Jeremy Romero is the same officer who says the state's special investigations unit fired him when he reported another officer for sleeping with prostitutes.

Romero crashed his squad car Tuesday at the end of a 100-mile-per-hour chase through Corrales.

He's at UNM Hospital after suffering a spinal injury, broken ribs and a broken ankle in the crash.

Everyone from APD officers to Sandoval County deputies made stops at the hospital to check on Romero.

His squad car was so mangled, Corrales PD said it's not certain dash cam video of the chase can be recovered.

The suspect fled on foot after crashing a stolen Honda Accord. That person fled into the bosque, and though police have leads and persons of interest, there have been no arrests.

Romero has only been a cop in Corrales for a couple of months. He is in the process of suing his old bosses at New Mexico Public Safety Special Investigations.

In a lawsuit claiming whistle-blower retaliation, Romero alleges he was fired as an agent of that department when he reported a colleuage for sleeping with prostitutes on the job.

Romero says when he reported the agent - Tim Carlson - to his superiors, he was fired.
