Thursday was the first day of testimony in Ronald Santiago’s double-murder trial. Santiago is accused of killing Greg and Bernadette Ohlemacher in 2005 to cover up a fraud scheme. The Ohlemachers’ daughter took the stand late in the afternoon.

Renee Ohlemacher was the one who called 911 the day her parents were found dead. Prosecuting attorneys questioned her about  her relationship with her family and what happened that day. She said she was sleeping when she woke up to the sound of gunshots and her dad yelling “What are you doing?”

Ohlemacher said she stayed in her room, grabbing a cell phone and hiding in the closet. When 911 dispatchers were almost there, she says she crawled past their room to get downstairs and outside.

Attorneys also questioned her about her parents’ life insurance policy and changing her name after her parents’ death. She says when her name came up in searches, it had been hard to get a job.
