A sixth grader in Los Lunas was allowed to return to school Wednesday after making changes to his haircut.

On Monday, 11-year-old Marcus Chavez went to Los Lunas Elementary School with a tribal art design shaved into his hair. School administrators said it was a distraction and told him not to come back to class until he got it fixed.

His mother, Grace Chavez, agreed to have a barber modify her son's haircut.

A school spokesperson confirmed Chavez returned to school today and would not be disciplined.

"The past is the past won't happen again," father Steven Chavez wrote to KOB. "Just sad cause it gave him some confidence in some ways, plus he liked it."

Marcus Chavez's parents fixed his haircut so he could return to school.
Marcus Chavez wasn't allowed to go to school because of his haircut.
