The Albuquerque Academy community is mourning the loss of a former student who died in a car crash late Monday.

Angela Mathew, a junior at Harvard University, was traveling with several students from a weekend mock trial competition in Virginia when they got into an accident on the New Jersey Turnpike.

Mathew graduated from the Albuquerque Academy in 2011.

"Angela Mathew will always be remembered as a member of the Albuquerque Academy. She was an extraordinary young woman, great student and participated actively in the speech and debate team, as well as the track team," said Andy Watson, Albuquerque Academy headmaster. "The entire community is at a loss for words and our hearts go out to her family and all of her friends."
