Loved ones say Alex Madrid wanted to be a doctor, which was a career that fit his love of caring for others.
“It wasn't his time to go,” said Alexander Gallegos, who sees his little cousin Alex Madrid as a baby. He babysat Madrid and saw him grow up.
“He would follow me around everywhere just like a little a tail,” Gallegos said.
He says Madrid was a normal kid who loved football and video games.
“He just wanted to do him and do what he wanted,” he said.
Gallegos says he had to grow up fast. He was the oldest of his siblings and his father died while he was a toddler.
He helped raise them and cared for his cousin Jasmine Gallegos.
“I wish I could still laugh with him,” he said, “Have fun, take care of him, show him the ropes, and show him how to be a man.”
According to investigators, this teen was the last one to see Madrid alive when he was visiting family in Meadowlake.
15-year-old Brandon Villalobos is accused of hitting Madrid in the face and killing him.
Madrid was found in this field near Villalobos' home.
Deputies say Villalobos killed Madrid after the two got into an argument over Villalobos’ daughter.
“He could have done so much, he wanted to do so much,” Gallegos said, “All he needed was a chance-this kid took it away.”
