A man armed with a butcher knife went on a stabbing spree in a North Valley trailer park Friday morning, sending three people to the hospital. One of them was a ten-year-old girl. She is in critical condition at UNM Hospital, with stab wounds to her head and face. Her accused attacker in is jail, charged with a half-dozen felonies.
Bernalillo County Sheriff’s deputies say 43-year-old Leroy Lindsey is the man who stabbed and slashed the little girl, her mother, and a man who tried to stop him.
“For something like this to happen is just unthinkable,” said Sgt. Aaron Williamson. “Words can’t describe it. Detectives are looking into whether alcohol or drugs played a role in this.”
It happened in a trailer park just east of 2nd St and north of Alameda at a little before 1 a.m. Neighbors are stunned.
“I’ve just seen them around here and there,” said next door neighbor Cesar Gamboa. “I’ve seen the girl come out. I didn’t really know them but it’s pretty scary.”
Deputies say Lindsey was a guest in Samantha Garcia’s trailer, and forced his way into the bedroom Garcia was sharing with her daughter.
“He armed himself with a knife,” Williamson said. “One of the other males in the house, who was identified as Jason Hamilton, came in to try and intervene. He suffered a couple of stab wounds himself.”
Williamson said the mother suffered stab wounds to the arms, legs and torso. He said Lindsey caught Hamilton and another woman trying to get away and forced himself into their car, ordering them to drive. Deputies pulled them over at 2nd and Alameda and caught Lindsey after a foot chase. He is charged with child abuse resulting in great bodily harm, aggravated battery, and kidnapping.
