After three days of deliberations, a jury found a former mortgage lender not guilty in the 2005 slayings of an Albuquerque couple.
On Tuesday, Ronald Santiago was acquitted of murder charges in the shooting deaths of Greg and Bernadette Ohlemacher. Santiago was working on a mortgage loan for the couple at the time they were killed.
Prosecutors argued Santiago killed the Ohlemachers to cover up a mortgage fraud scheme, but throughout the trial, the defense tried to create reasonable doubt by focusing on the couple's daughter, Renee. They argued Renee Ohlemacher had her own motives for killing her parents: A $500,000 life insurance policy.
The trial lasted four weeks after being delayed nearly eight years
