An active investigation has the Albuquerque Public Schools police chief on administrative leave.

The district confirms Steve Tellez was put on leave over allegations of employee misconduct.

APS officials would not elaborate on the investigation, but school board member Kathy Korte told KOB it does not involve teachers or students.

Tensions ran high in the department when Tellez took over as APS police chief. Back in 2010, the APS Police Department voted "no confidence" in Tellez when he was still the interim chief.

The union would not go into detail but said the vote was influenced by poor money management and violations of a union contract.
