Lobos survive Utah State, 67-58

Mark this a win from the bench.

Cullen Neal prompted a 12-0 run by No. 25 New Mexico with back-to-back buckets from long range as the Lobos defeated Utah State 67-58 in Albuquerque.

Utah State (15-13, 5-11) held New Mexico to under 40 percent field goal shooting for most of the game before the Lobos woke up their offense.

Cleveland Thomas found Neal for the game tying three with 8:49 left to play. Alex Kirk (12 pts, 12 reb) took over in the end and kept the streaking Aggies at bay.

Preston Medlin shot 4 for 5 from the 3-point line as he led Utah State with 19 points and into a late lead in the sold out Pit.

Strong defensive play inside the paint by Kirk and Cameron Bairstow (14 pts, 11 reb) led the late the run by the Lobos.

Kendall Williams tied the Mountain West career assist leader when he served Neal on a 3-point play to tie the game with 13:19 to play in the first half.

The Aggies held Williams scoreless in the first half, but the Lobos guard came back with 10 points in the second half.
