In the early morning hours Wednesday, multiple law enforcement agencies raided 13 different locations in San Juan County.

“Roughly 300 law enforcement officers on the ground, starting early this morning with simultaneous hits," according to Kevin Abar of Homeland Security Investigations.

Members of San Juan County Sheriff's Office, police from Farmington, Aztec and Bloomfield as well as Homeland Security Investigations seized five pounds of methamphetamine and numerous firearms.

Sherriff Ken Christesen said, “I think it went extremely smooth, there were no injuries at all reported.”

The raids were a result of a nearly year-long investigation. 28 people were arrested Wednesday.

“What we did was dismantle and disrupt a large criminal organization, said Abar, “that had tentacles not only here in San Juan County but reaching all the way down into the republic of Mexico.”

Agencies say this shows drug trafficking will not be tolerated in San Juan County.

“I think it sends a clear message that you are going to end up in prison or dead,” said Christesen.

Each agency is proud of the work to make a dent if the drug problem in San Juan County.

Abar said, “When you ask the question, ‘is San Juan County safer today than they were yesterday?’, Yes, they are. Without a doubt.”
