There's a new mascot in town, and the public is being asked to give it a name.

The Rio Metro Regional Transit District, the agency that runs the New Mexico Rail Runner, plan on unveiling a new mascot for the commuter train in May.

The agency is being asked for their help in naming the mascot, which according the Transit District, is a roadrunner – the official state bird of New Mexico.

The new mascot and official name will be unveiled at an Albuquerque Isotopes baseball game on Friday, May 2. The mascot will be appearing at Isotopes games throughout the season through a partnership with the team. Additionally, the mascot will be seen greeting passengers on trains occasionally and will be available for community events.

The public is invited to submit names for the mascot on the New Mexico Rail Runner website at  Submissions will be accepted through 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, March 16.  Duplicate name entries will be credited to the first person making the submission with that name.
