A pedestrian bridge is about to get some work done after it was nearly destroyed by a brush fire last June.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 was at the fire and saw flames shoot up about 20 to 30 feet. It even got close to homes, but luckily, none were destroyed. After the fire, the bridge was deemed unsafe for people to use.

The New Mexico Department of Transportation announced construction will start Thursday at 9 p.m. and will force Tramway between Menaul and Candaleria to close until 5 a.m. Friday.

The bridge is set to open mid-May. The project is expected to cost $465,000.
