Albuquerque police have released the names of the officers involved in the fatal shooting of a man in the foothills on Sunday.
Officers Keith Sandy and Dominique Perez have both been with APD for multiple years. Sandy was hired in 2007 and Perez joined in 2006.
APD spokeswoman Tasia Martinez said investigators are still attempting to locate any relatives of the suspect. His identity has not been released.
The department is expected to release more information about the incident on Friday.
Police said they confronted the man on Sunday because he camping illegally near Copper and Tramway. For hours, police said talked to the man and tried to get him to surrender, but their efforts were unsuccessful.
According to APD, the man had multiple knives and threatened to kill the officers.
"Here's what we know specifically is that some of our less-than-lethal devices make sounds like a shot gun. Our bean bag rounds make sounds like shot gun, so until we know from each and every one of the officers what they did and then the evidence that we receive from their weapons, as well as their lapel cams, we don't have all that information," Eden said.
