The international network of online activists known as "Anonymous" has announced their plans to launch a cyber attack on the Albuquerque Police Department's websites.

The announcement was released Wednesday on the group's YouTube channel. The group cites the recent shooting by APD of a man in the foothills and calls for citizens to organize and assist with the attack.

A spokeperson for Albuquerque mayor Richard Berry is scheduled to address the planned attack Wednesday afternoon with the media.

The group has organized similar attacks in the past, notably targeting the Church of Scientology and government agencies of several countries.

Time magazine called Anonymous one its world's 100 most influential people in the world for 2012.
