DOJ, FBI to investigate APD foothills shooting

The Department of Justice and the FBI have announced they are opening a criminal investigation into the APD officer-involved foothills shooting that resulted in the death of James Boyd.

The investigation will be conducted by the Department of Justice's Criminal Section of the Civil Rights Division, the United States Attorney's Office for the District of New Mexico and the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Prosecutors will determine whether the evidence gatherd by the investigation reveals a violation of federal civil rights and if federal prosecution is warranted.
