As people at Fort Hood are dealing with a horrific case of history repeating itself, there is a woman here in Albuquerque grieving right along with them.
Terry Bierwirth knows exactly what they are going through. She was at Fort Hood for the 2009 shooting. Her husband was stationed at Fort Hood, but was deployed to Iraq at the time.
Terry got locked down with her children inside a medical clinic for hours during the first shooting. When she heard the news Wednesday of another shooting at Fort Hood, she was in shock and disbelief.
"I just know how that community reacted in 2009 and how they all came together, and I know exactly what they're doing right now," Terry said.
She expects the community in Killeen, TX will likely be demanding changes in security at Fort Hood. There are restrictions for service members when it comes to carrying weapons on post. The gunman in Wednesday's shooting is believed to have smuggled a handgun into Fort Hood.
