It’s a top oil producing county in New Mexico, but Lea County has some of the highest gas prices in the state.

Residents wanted the state’s Attorney General to look into it.

That investigation is over and drivers aren’t happy about the result.

Drivers in Lea County are disappointed.

“It’s ridiculous to me to have to pay that much money," said Tom Hart.

On Friday, a gallon of gas in Lea County costs $3.59, in Roswell it’s $3.42, and the average price in Albuquerque is $3.24.

“I don't understand why it's higher here than anywhere else," said Hart.

Lea County is a top oil producing county, so people living here don’t get it.

“I would like to know why other places don't pay the same amount that we do," said Carrie Young.

That’s why the state Attorney General’s office launched its’ investigation.

The AG’s office says one of the reasons the gas prices in Lea County may be high is because of a lack of competition.

There aren’t enough gas stations to keep prices in check.

The investigation also looked into allegations that refineries are charging the gas stations more, but they didn’t find evidence of that.

According to the report, the AG is “not pursuing legal action at this time.”

“Yeah, I’m disappointed in that they should be taking action if its higher here than anywhere else," said Hart.

“It's terrible, I feel upset about it," said Terry Brown.

It looks like drivers will keep paying more at the pump.

“It’s not fair, it's not fair at all,” said Marisa Garcia.

“If it’s lower everywhere else, it shouldn't be gouging here," said Hart.
