Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden is expected to announce the department's new deputy chief on Tuesday.

The announcement comes at a critical time for the department.

The new deputy chief will make sure APD follows recommendations made by the Department of Justice. The deputy chief will also follow an officer's career throughout the department – from the application process to the training process.

The deputy chief will also evaluate officers after they're involved in any use of force, and he will not only monitor officers, but also APD employees in other roles.
