An Albuquerque National Guardsman accused of killing his friend pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter in district court Wednesday.

Anthony Baldonado was charged with felony murder, three counts of attempted murder, aggravated assault and two counts of tampering with evidence.

Police said Baldonado shot and killed Gilbert Chavez in 2012. According to the criminal complaint, Baldonado told another guardsman he killed Chavez to cut ties from his former drug life style.

Last year, a judge declared a mistrial after jurors could not reach a decision.
