Albuquerque citizens gathered in Civic Plaza Thursday to watch and discuss the Department of Justice's announcement on their investigation into the city's police department.

When the Justice Department announced that APD officers engaged in a pattern of "excessive force," the group told KOB that is what they've been saying all along: Deadly force was used against people who posed a minimal threat.

While this is a step in the right direction, the group told KOB there is still a lot of work that they need to do, as well as the police department.

"We really need for our city to listen to the community, to take us seriously and respect us. Because they are working for us," said Tylina Hardy, one the Albuquerque residents watching the DOJ announcement in Civic Plaza.

The same group says they will attend a police oversight commission meeting at 4 p.m. to discuss the next steps in moving APD forward.
