Becky Rowley has been running the Boston Marathon since 1998.

It’s a tradition she’s proud of.

“It’s just spectacular," said Rowley.  “It’s just kind of an unbelievable thing and you know that you’re really part of something big."

But last year Rowley wasn’t there.

“I feel like it was a matter of chance in a lot of ways.  Like I said I’ve never gone two years in a row, I don’t really know, not really for any logical reason that's just sort of a pattern I established," said Rowley.

But she says if she had been, she could have easily been among the hundreds injured, or even killed.

“You know I could have been right there and probably would have known some people that were right there because I do know a few other people that do run it," said Rowley.

Rowley says it’s hard to see the images of the bombing site, so close to the finish line.

"I know exactly the spot they're talking about,” said Rowley. “And people that have gone with me are standing generally on the other side of the street, but right at that spot."

Rowley says the bombings are not stopping her running tradition.

“The events from last year certainly wouldn't keep me from it.  And I will say that there is a certain, I want to do it even more maybe than I would have otherwise because of that," said Rowley.

Rowley leaves for Boston on Friday.

The marathon is Monday.
