Friends and family held a vigil Monday night for Mary Hawkes, the 19-year-old female suspect shot and killed by Albuquerque police.

"She was an amazing person. She cared about everybody. She always helped. She was just an amazing person," said Rachel Leon, a friend of Hawkes.

The vigil was interupted when a man, identified by police as 26-year-old Mario Andres Romero, showed up at Zuni and Wyoming carrying two guns in his hand. He claimed to be Hawkes' fiance.

Police Chief Gorden Eden told KOB on Monday that the female suspect stole a vehicle and then took off running. Police said she turned around and pointed a gun at an officer chasing her on foot. The officer then shot her.
