Albuquerque police have identified the auto theft suspect killed in an officer-involved shooting on Monday as Mary Hawkes, 19.

Yesterday, police said officers tried to stop Hawkes in a suspected car theft near Wyoming and Zuni. She then fled from them on foot.

Police Chief Gorden Eden said an officer shot and killed her after she pointed a gun at them.

Surveillance video from a nearby car wash shows Hawkes about 20 minutes before she was shot. The woman runs straight through a car wash bay to the back parking lot of the business. She is then seen from another angle being cut off by an APD unit in pursuit.
