The Albuquerque Police officer who fired the shot that killed Mary Hawkes Monday has been identified.

Officer Jeremy Dear was involved in a chase with Hawkes Monday morning in the area of Wyoming and Zuni after attempting to stop her on suspicion of an auto theft. Police say Hawkes pulled a weapon on Dear, prompting Dear to fire his weapon.

Officer Dear is assigned to the APD Field Services Bureau Southeast Command Patrol and has been with the department since November 2007. He has been placed on paid administrative leave following the shooting.

Police plan on holding a update Wednesday morning to give more information on the investigation.
