(NBC News) -- The Food And Drug Administration is announcing today it wants to regulate e-cigarettes.
E-cigarettes are metal or plastic tubes that use nicotine, water and other materials to create a flavored mist.
Cigarette ads are banned, but these products don't fall under the current ban. The FDA wants hundreds of e-cigarette manufacturers to register, so government scientists can determine if they're a health hazard.
