Thousands packed The Pit on Friday for the "Gathering of Nations" opening ceremony.

It was definitely one to remember for an Arizona woman who got the surprise of her life.

Amileah Davis was one of a few women who was recognized for their military service.

But for Amileah, it was just one more special moment her husband of five years missed. For the past year, her husband, Captain Jukari Davis, has been serving in Afghanistan.

Difficult and emotional -- are just some of the words Amileah uses to describe how it's been for the past year.

But little did she know, her husband wasn't missing it. He surprised her towards the end of the ceremony.

"I was like, I know it. I had an idea. I was just very happy, very excited," said Amileah, who is also a captain in the United States Air Force.

"Overwhelmed. I mean it turned out better than I expected," added Jukari.

Jukari was supposed to come home in about 2 weeks. But he wanted to surprise her at the "Gathering of Nations," when his wife was being honored, in front of their community.

"I just wanted to come surprise Amileah, give her a kiss and a hug then be on our way but we did that and more. I got to see my family again so that's very nice. That's my sister behind me," said Jukari.
