Dept. of Justice to hold public meetings on APD reforms

The Department of Justice wants to hear from the public about reforming the Albuquerque Police Department starting Monday night.

The first of three public forums will take place at the Alamosa Community Center, on Gonzales near Coors and Bridge in southwest Albuquerque. The meeting starts at 5 p.m. and lasts for two hours.

The meetings follow findings released from the DOJ's investigation into APD, which found many officers engaged in a pattern of excessive force over the past four years.

The city of Albuquerque has agreed to enter negotiations on a blueprint for reform, and this week, DOJ representatives will also meet with police officers and city officials.

On Tuesday, the forum will take place at Palo Duro Senior Center, located at 5221 Palo Dura NE, from 5-7 p.m. The final meeting will take place on Wednesday at the Cesar Chavez Community Center, located at 7505 Kathryn SE, at the same time.
