Financial convenience just cost an Albuquerque woman a large portion of her paycheck.  Now, she urges other Walmart Money Card customers to keep a close eye on their accounts.

“I went from almost $400 for the whole two weeks -- until next pay day -- to $30 dollars,” Jennifer Bitsoih said.

Bitsoih uses the card in lieu of a bank account, which she closed last year after she lost a job.  The single mother of three children said she intended to use the Money Card temporarily, but became comfortable with it.

“I didn't carry much cash at all,” Bitsoih said.

Money Card customers can deposit money on the cards and use them anywhere – not solely at Walmart.

On Easter Sunday, Bitsoih learned that thieves got the best of her.  Somehow, somewhere, someone hacked her account and likely generated a counterfeit card that matches hers.  The card was used to withdraw money from an ATM in Houston.

“I don't know anybody in Houston, I haven't been to Houston.  No one has access to my personal information,” she said.

Bitsoih said she immediately contacted Walmart, but learned it could take days for the retailer to determine what it could do for her.  She said she’s not counting on the company refunding the money she lost.

Until she receives her next paycheck, Bitsoih said she has to borrow money from her sister.

KOB Eyewitness News 4 contacted Walmart about the situation, but the company has not responded.

However, on the company’s website, it said customers who believe they are victims of theft should contact Walmart customer service as quickly as possible.
