The 26-year-old man accused of taking an Albuquerque teen across state lines--prompting an Amber Alert--is now facing criminal charges.

Robert Butler has been charged in federal court with transporting a minor with the intent to engage in sexual activity.

According to authorities, Butler took 14-year-old Lacey DeWent from New Mexico to Oklahoma to Texas to Arkansas. They were found on April 17 in Fort Smith, Arkansas.

DeWent's parents said their daughter met Butler online. They said Butler was arrested for being in contact with Lacey.

If convicted, Butler could face a maximum sentence of life in prison.

Lacey DeWent, 14, was found in Arkansas with Robert Bulter, 26.
