Classes are canceled Tuesday for Pajarito Elementary School due to a copper theft.

Albuquerque Public Schools said the school has no electricity because of a damaged transformer.

The executive director of operations for APS said the copper was stolen while the transformer was still on.

The district believes the thieves had a PNM key to access the school's electric box. PNM representatives tell KOB they are working closely with law enforcement to prevent copper theft.

APS plans to reopen the school on Wednesday.

Anyone with have information about a copper theft is asked to call Crime Stoppers at (505)-843-7867.
