The Drug Enforcement Administration and local law enforcement agencies arrested 24 people on Thursday as part of a two-year drug takedown operation in Taos.
Investigators targeted a drug trafficking organization distributing cocaine in Taos County. The investigation was code-named "Operation Plumber's Mansion" because the alleged leader of the organization, 55-year-old Ismael Adame, owned In & Out Plumbing, which was operated out of a large estate.
Taos District Attorney Donald Gallegos obtained nine search warrants for residences and businesses associated with the drug trafficking organization, along with arrest warrants for 27 people, three of whom were already in custody.
"The arrests made today are the end result of law enforcement working together to take down an organization that mistakenly thought it could go unnoticed in one of our smaller communities. We will remain diligent in aggressively pursuing those who poison our communities and profit from the sale and distribution of these dangerous drugs," special agent Joseph M. Arabit said in a statement.
