A teacher shortage has one New Mexico school district thinking outside the box.
They’re advertising online, hoping they'll reach teachers who may think of our state as an opportunity.
Romando Largo is one of many Rio Rancho parents concerned about how much one-on-one time their student gets with their teacher.
Right now, there are more than 50 job openings for teaching positions across the district.
Knowing that's a problem, Rio Rancho Public Schools took their needs online.
The district is looking for qualified teachers on national websites such as TeacherJobs.com and Education.America.net.
District leaders hope the ads attract teachers who may not have considered working in New Mexico before.
“I think I’ll be good because it'll allow more one-on-one time with the kids. That way the classes won’t be so cluttered,” Largo said.
District officials say they need more teachers in science and math.
The RRPS spokesperson says they've spent up to $1,500 for the ads, money they hope is well spent.
