A New Mexico charter school says three of their students were on board the plane that crashed near Silver City on Friday.

On Saturday morning, the director of development at Aldo Leopold Charter School in Silver City said three of their students were killed in the crash. The pilot was also killed.

The small plane crashed and then caught fire just before 5 p.m.

The names of the four people killed have not been released. New Mexico State Police say they are waiting for the Office of the Medical Investigator to confirm the identities.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating what caused the plane to go down
