Thieves stole military decorative medals from an 89-year-old WWII veteran. Friends of the veteran are asking the community to help get the medals back.
Roy Hopper has been honored by First Lady Laura Bush and General Colin Powell. But his most treasured honor came in 1991 when he was awarded the Bronze Star for his heroic efforts in WWII. Hopper was one of the 150,000 troops who stormed the Nazis on the beaches of Normandy in June 1944. Days later, he was captured by the Germans and taken to a POW camp for nine months.
Last month, Hopper—who now uses a motorized scooter to get around, fell and broke a hip. He’s been hospitalized ever since. While recovering at the VA, somebody broke into his home and stole a display case with all of his medals.
You can help Roy Hopper by keeping an eye out for these medals. If you see the decorations on Craigslist, pawn shops, or antique stores, call APD.
