There was a major discrepancy in the early and absentee results from Bernalillo County on the secretary of state's website. But both sides say the problem wasn't their fault.

Bernalillo County officials say just minutes after they uploaded their early and absentee results onto their website they sent the same file to the secretary of state. Shortly after, Secretary of State Dianna Duran's office said a test file had been uploaded instead of the results.

The numbers on Bernalillo County's website were correct. But somehow, the numbers were different on the secretary of state's website.

In a statement, the secretary of state's office said Bernalillo County reported more than 80,000 Democratic votes just after 7 p.m. Typically, a primary only has around 30,000-40,000 votes at best.

"We saw that they had uploaded test files that are several weeks old, and that had nothing to do with the current returns. We immediately directed them to correct their uploads," said Bobbi Shearer, director of the Bureau of Elections, "Hopefully the other counties won't have the same problem."

Bernalillo County said they immediately had their IT department and the software company to check it all out.

"We immediately got with our IT department and they verified that we did not send any test data, that the file that we did send had the accurate numbers."

The secretary of state's office said in their statement the error was Bernalillo County's fault. Bernalillo County says they've verified it wasn't their fault. Needless to say, the error was quickly fixed.
