(AP) - Congressman Ben Ray Lujan easily defeated a challenger in New Mexico's Democratic primary Tuesday, while Republican Mike Frese of Corrales won the GOP bid for Rep. Michelle Lujan Grisham's seat.

In the 3rd Congressional District, Democratic three-term incumbent Lujan easily defeated challenger Robert Blanch, an assistant district attorney in Albuquerque, with 84 percent in unofficial returns.

Lujan will face Republican Jefferson Byrd of Tucumcari for a second time in November.

In the GOP primary for the 1st Congressional District, Frese defeated Richard Priem, a 64-year-old businessman and retired Army veteran from Albuquerque, with 64 percent of the vote for the chance to run against Lujan Grisham in her first re-election bid in November.

There were no primary races for southern New Mexico's 2nd Congressional District seat currently held by Republican Steve Pearce, who will run against Democratic attorney Roxanne "Rocky" Laura from Carlsbad in November.
