A group of Albuquerque residents lined up outside the Economic Forum at the Hotel Albuquerque Wednesday morning to protest APD Chief Gorden Eden's leadership.

Eden was scheduled to speak at the forum.

The protest is one of many following the Department of Justice's report accusing APD of engaging in a pattern of excessive force.

While Eden was just named chief in February, the protesters criticized his response to the fatal police shooting of a mentally ill homeless man in the foothills in March. Days after the shooting, Eden told the media he thought the shooting was "justified." He later went back on his statement.

"Protesters say Eden is the wrong person to lead APD through its transition away from what the Department of Justice calls 'a culture of aggression' and its reported lack of top to bottom accountability from its leadership," one of the protest organizers wrote in a statement sent to media.

The protesters want Eden to resign or for Mayor Richard Berry to remove him from office.
