The wind whipped up trouble in Valencia County starting around midday Wednesday and it did some major damage.
First, there was an 18-wheeler that was blown over on I-25 heading south near Los Lunas due to strong winds. Nobody was hurt and the semi has since been removed.
However, the wind left its mark for one Los Lunas homeowner. Bonita Bench's neighbor's hay barn was completely destroyed. The wind carried the pieces up to 200 feet across her yard, right in some of her animals' pens.
"I open up the door and it just went boom! I thank the good Lord that animals are not dead," Bench said.
The hay barn wasn't the only thing damaged. Bench's grills and smokers are now toast to what she claims was a tornado, but it was most likely caused by a dry thunderstorm, producing wind gusts greater than 50 miles per hour.
