The community is coming together to help an army veteran who lost everything in a fire, including his war medals.

Generous offers of support are helping Floyd Molina move forward. More than 50 volunteers came together Saturday morning to help him clean up what’s left of his home.

After a prayer they got to work removing the rubble. Even the trucks and excavator were donated.

“It's awesome,” said Molina. “The turnout that didn't think was going to happen, happened.”

Molina went to the store during a power outage last week and returned to find his home on fire. The electricity was turned back on while he was gone and started a fire on the stove. It quickly spread to the entire house.

“When we were at the store I noticed the smoke and said, ‘Oh no, that's my place,’” he said. “I remembered the pot was on the stove and the electricity went back on.”

They were able to salvage his army medals from the fire but they’re almost all destroyed.

Volunteers say helping him start over is the right thing to do.

“Since he served us we want to make sure we serve him,” said Pastor Joseph Carrillo, with New Beginnings Church.

They’re also trying to get companies to donate a new home.

“When you have individuals have issues like this we need to as a community to stand around them and say thank you for what you've done for us,” said Shane D’Onofrio, founder of an organization called Heroes Walk Among Us.
